Rapid Eye Movement sleep is linked to symptom change and synaptic plasticity in the left prefrontal cortex. The project leverages sophisticated electrophysiological methodologies, integrating Electroencephalography and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, to evaluate alterations in neuroplasticity indices in relation to brain-sleep-variables in patients with bipolar disorder. Employing a structured randomized dose-response protocol, we want to elucidate the influence of REM-sleep via wake therapy on neuroplasticity, clinical symptomatology, and cognitive-emotional processes.
