SPP 734:  Multifunktionswerkstoffe

Subject Area Materials Science and Engineering
Term from 1995 to 2001
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5466171

The rapid development of microelectronics in recent years resulted inhigh degrees of miniaturization of electronic devices. This requiresincreasing quality standards with regard to reliability and long-termstability particularly of ceramic components. The interdependence ofelectronic, mechanical and thermal properties together withmorphological parameters become of decisive importance. In the programthe fundamental knowledge of science and engineering with respect tofracture mechanics, solid state electronics and ceramic materialdevelopment is synergetically utilized and improved. Included areproblem-oriented characterisation and analytical methods as well ascomputer-aided modelling and simulation. The following main topics are dealt with:-- Mechanical phenomena in ferroelectric functional ceramics-- Anionic and cationic diffusion processes in solid electrolite system-- Mechanical and electric interactions in multilayer and composite structures.
