Mapping of Moisture-Driven Ecosystems using hyper- and multispectral VNIR/SWIR Imaging and SLAM LiDAR scanning (L01*)

Subject Area Palaeontology
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 268236062

The use of hyperspectral satellite data and advanced remote sensing sensors onboard UAVs has opened new possibilities for environmental analysis, which we aim to explore further. Key research questions include understanding the microscale variations in plant distribution and their relationship with local moisture dynamics, the role of lichens in indicating moisture availability, and the potential of remote sensing for ecological mapping. We will focus on refining our methods and expanding our analysis to include a broader range of ecological indicators, enhancing our overall understanding of the Atacama ecosystem from a local to a regional scale.
