Subproject S03 continues the integrated research of different (former) subprojects on transformations of human settlement behaviour, land use and socio-political dynamics, and attempts to bring them synthetically into an interpretation framework. In a long chronological perspective, spanning from the Mesolithic to antiquity, the spatial organisation of communities engaged in different socio-economic formations is investigated (e.g. seasonally mobile groups, mega-sites and urban centres, dispersed sedentary settlements to larger aggregated village and urban communities), based on the data already available from the CRC 1266.
