Characterization of host factors as targets for the development of broadly acting therapeutics against emerging viruses (B02)

Subject Area Virology
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 512741711

Project Description

Specific treatments remain rare for emerging viruses, but approaches targeting conserved virus-host interactions have the potential to yield broadly active therapies capable of targeting a diverse range of disease agents (including novel viruses). We have identified promising virus-host interactions based on siRNA screening against genetically diverse pathogens (i.e. filoviruses and arenavirus). We now plan to investigate in-depth the details of their role in virus infection and define their molecular interactions with viral components as a first step in realizing the therapeutic potential of these targets.
