Impact of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay on gene expression fidelity (A08)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 520471345

Project Description

Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) plays a crucial role in identifying and degrading mRNAs containing improper translation termination codons. The significance of NMD as a quality control mechanism becomes more pronounced under conditions of inaccurate gene expression. Our project aims to uncover the compensatory and regulatory role of NMD during various stress conditions and the influence of NMD on protein isoform production. Consequently, we aim to unravel the multifaceted role of NMD as a surveillance mechanism operating under both normal and fidelity-compromised conditions.
