The hypothesis that the t-HP catalyst acts as a "short-circuited" electrochemical cell represents a compelling paradigm shift. Nevertheless, a thorough study considering this notion is challenging owing to the inherent transport limitations of the reactions and the fact that e-HP is typically done at atmospheric pressure while t-HP is greatly accelerated at high pressure. Consequently, comparative analyses of t-HP and e-HP have so far, been relegated to separate, specialized reactors. As part of the Research Unit HyPerCat, TP2-Dittmeyer aims to bridge this gap by developing a multifaceted experimental platform capable of seamlessly transitioning between t-HP and e-HP modalities. These "LEGO-Like" are continuous flow reactors that enable the investigation of both reaction systems under controlled thermodynamic and flow conditions. Our goal is thus, to attain a profound phenomenological understanding that will be the basis of the rational design of reaction systems for both t-HP and e-HP. Three convergent elements will be part of TP2: 1) Integrated fabrication of micro-structured elements through additive manufacturing, 2) Precision technical coating of catalysts in the resulting devices and 3) Experimentally validated CFD modelling of the reaction conditions and product evolution.
