Subject Area

Project identifier

The cell-in-the-loop test bench makes it possible to operate one or more battery cells under controlled electrical and thermal boundary conditions as if they were already installed in a module or storage system. In analogy to a hardware-in-the-loop test bench, the cells can thus be tested for their behavior in the target system before the module has been assembled or the design parameters, such as cooling, can be adjusted during operation. As there are no off-the-shelf systems available for such a setup, this system functionality must be created using individual devices that are functionally connected. The test stand has a tripartite structure corresponding to the three system levels (laboratory cell, cell in the target format and module), so that it is possible to reach the next higher system level by linking the respective test systems in the observation level. In addition to investigating cell behavior, the effects of inhomogeneous new and aged batteries on the battery management system (both hardware and software) will also be researched. This includes new hardware concepts for cell monitoring as well as new algorithms.
