Project Details
Protein-to-DNA electron transfer reactions using DNA binding enzymes
Applicant
Dr. Alexandra Spieß
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
from 2004 to 2008
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5429976
Recently electron transfer reactions can be observed between peptides or proteines and the DNA. Lys-Trp-Lys and Lys-Tyr-Lys have been as model peptides and M.Hhal was used as first example of a DNA-binding protein. The project of this research fellowship will be the investigation of DNA-mediated electron-transfer reactions modulated by the Fe-S-cluster containing enyzmes MutY, Endo III or SoxR. It is planned to observe the electron transfer process spectroscopically and analyze the resulting oxidative DNA damage by gel electrophoresis.
