Photoelectrons produced in the process of strong-field photodetachment are recorded by using an imaging technique. Their energy and angular distributions provide insight into (i) the effect of quantum interference of matter waves emitted by photodetachment, (ii) the role of elctron correlations under strong laser field conditions, and (iii) mechanisms of multiple detachment of negative ions. The absence of intermediate resonant states in negative ions enables to observe these fundamental effects in a clear way and to make a straightforward interpretation of the data. The experimental results will be used for testing recent theories developed to describe photodetachment from a short-range potential.
