Data-driven evaluation of the hadronic vacuum polarization (B03)

Subject Area Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 514321794

Project Description

This project will significantly improve the accuracy of the data-driven determination of the Hadronic Vacuum Polarization (HVP) contribution to (g-2)my and to the determination of the running of the electromagnetic fine structure constant. The improvement will be achieved through the measurement of the most important exclusive contribution, the pion time-like form factor, with world leading precision. Additionally, this project will allow for an independent (data-driven) determination of HVP thanks to the first inclusive measurement of the hadron production cross section at lower energies (below 2 GeV) using a highly innovative technique based on the initial state radiation process.
