Project Details
A precision determination of the weak mixing angle at low energies (B01)
Subject Area

The parity-violating electron scattering (PVES) program at MESA with the P2 spectrometer within this CRC aims at determining the weak charge of the proton at an unprecedented level of precision, improving the existing results by factors of 3 to 4. Due to the fact that the scales in these experiments are in the hadronic energy (MeV - GeV) range, the information obtained in this low-energy measurement is complementary to the ongoing LHC measurements, which are performed at the Z-pole (91 GeV). Both energy scales will deliver different sensitivities for new physics up to around 50 TeV.
