Project Description

Currently our programme is composed of 20 different groups ranging from theoretical chemistry, spectroscopy, organic and inorganic chemistry to biochemistry and microbiology. In every group about two young co-workers are involved in the project, mainly as graduate students or postdocs. In order to promote cooperation between these diverse subjects, we want to provide a workshop, in which the different methods of each field are presented by experts to the young members of the programme. Thus a microbiologist will learn the methods and problems of the various spectroscopic techniques. The chemists and physicists will be introduced into the isolation of microorganisms and purification of enzymes. Mechanisms proposed by biochemists will be validated by theoretical calculations. In addition, visits of different laboratories should be promoted in order to get an idea e.g. how a high field EPR-spectrometer will work and what kind of samples are required.
