The objective of this project is to identify cerebral and physical mechanisms that explain recovery after exercise treatment in schizophrenia. Particularly, we search for changes in brain and body health after exercise that drive improvements in psychiatric symptoms, cognitive performance, and daily life functioning in people with schizophrenia. Elucidating such mechanisms is essential to gain a better understanding of the pathophysiology of schizophrenia in general and may provide a basis for the development of further efficient treatments that specifically target these mechanisms.
