The project addresses mechanisms of immune and organ defense during early metastasis formation for two organ niches (bone marrow and lymph node) and cancer types (melanoma and breast cancer). The project will provide (i) a detailed understanding of growth retarding mechanisms imposed by the human (immune-)microenvironment and (ii) information on the response of cancer cells that can be used to extend clinical latency or re-establish important barriers helping to control systemic cancer.
