Project Details
Sustainability-centered control of active cooling systems of spindles in machine tools (T16#)
Subject Area
Engineering Design, Machine Elements, Product Development
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 174223256
The objective of the transfer project is to optimize the use of active cooling systems in motor spindles against sustainable evaluation criteria together with the German spindle manufacturer GMN Paul Müller Industrie GmbH & Co. By using a model-predictive control strategy, active cooling systems should operate according to demand, taking into account the impact of the cooling system on sustainable operation of spindles. A sustainable operation requires the solution of an optimization problem, in which besides the thermal spindle growth also bearing pressures, winding temperatures and the electrical power consumption are considered as central variables influenced by the cooling system.
