Project Details
Controlling transport for RNA enrichment in 2D-alkaline chimneys (B07)
Subject Area
Biophysics
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 521256690
Alkaline vents forming chimney structures with reactive mineral surfaces at the prebiotic ocean are an exciting candidate as catalytic sites for abiotic organic synthesis at the emergence of life. By developing a quantitative map of molecule and salt transport within our 2D alkaline chimneys we aim to uncover the physical prerequisites for the enrichment of nucleic acids and the creation of dynamic environments facilitating replication.
