Diagenesis of red bed clastic reservoirs in the Central European Basin: how important is organic maturation and migration?

Subject Area Palaeontology
Term from 2002 to 2005
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5370505

The study suggested here is concentrated on testing the assumption, that major diagenetic features of the Permian Rotliegend sandstone reservoirs of the North German Basin / Central European Basin are directly controlled by the presence or absence of hydrocarbon maturation products. This should be accomplished by comparing quantified diagenetic phenomena in these reservoir sandstones from areas with and without hydraulic contact to hydrocarbon source rocks. The proposed investigation, based on petrographic-geochemical and modelling approaches, is intended to improve our knowledge of the chemical interaction of organic maturation products with red bed arkosic sandstones and to supply input data for diagenesis modelling (coupled transport reaction simulations).
