Project Details
Co-ordination of the Schwerpunktprogramm (SPP): "Dynamik sedimentärer Systeme unter wechselnden Spannungsregimen am Beispiel des zentraleuropäischen Beckensystems" and general management of data supplied by the German oil and gas industry for this scientific project
Applicant
Professor Dr. Ralf Littke
Subject Area
Palaeontology
Term
from 2002 to 2009
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5370324
Co-ordination of the SPP requires the build-up and maintenance of a SPP homepage, organization of yearly meetings of all project leaders and their co-workers, the invitation of guest speakers, organization of thematic workshop for scientific exchange of small subgroups as well as organization of yearly meetings of the co-ordination team. To fulfill these tasks, we apply for one scientific assistant located at RWTH Aachen (1/2 position) and for travel grants. Furthermore, seismic data and borehole data have been released by the German oil and gas companies. According to the needs of the SPP, the general data management implies supervision of the data selection and data extraction from the industrial data bases and data stores. As the original industry data is located in many different places (companies' data bases and in-house as well as outsourced data stores) the projects data management must cope with a diversity of data sources, data media and data formats. Therefore, homogenisation of the data is required for data management purposes before the final data storage on standard media best suitable for distribution to the SPP-project teams can be carried out. Another task within the data management is a precise documentation of the distribution of the proprietary industry data and the collection of the input data after the closing onf the entire project. This latter task will be carried out by the NLfB, Hannover, on their own account.
