B02 aims to elucidate the mechanism of coupled proton and electron transfer across the / subunit interface of the enzyme E. coli ribonucleotide reductase (RNR). Advanced hyperfine spectroscopy (ENDOR, ELDOR), along with biochemical labelling and biophysical methods, such as high-resolution protein crystallography and cryo-EM, will be applied to derive the structural basis for water-assisted PCET over long distances (> 30 Å), as a blueprint for efficient PCET at low driving force. B02 collaborates with projects A01/A03/B03/B04 (EPR spectroscopy) and with B04 (theory).
