PCET Mediators for Selective Electrochemical Bond Activation and Formation (A05)

Subject Area Inorganic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 510228793

Project Description

The project targets the development of molecular mediators for selective oxidative and reductive electrochemical transformations via (multi )PCET pathways. Zn, Al, and Sn porphyrin mediators with high O–H bond dissociation free energies will be used for the activation of strong, nonpolar C–H bonds. Cathodic reduction of (non)polar double bonds will be addressed with transition metal hydride mediators. Chemical strategies to con-trol redox potentials, proton supply, and H+ transfer kinetics will rely on redox-active ligands and proton relays. A05 collaborates with A02/A03/A04/B03/C03 ((spectro)electrochemistry), A06 (mediator exchange), B05 (supramolecular chemistry), A03/A04 (theory), and Ö01 (public outreach).
