The international ICDP (International Continental Scientific Drilling Program) is the platform for scientific research drilling on continents. The ICDP Science Plan 2020-2030, entitled ‘Billions of Years of Earth Evolution’, identifies four main topics: i) Geodynamic Processes; ii) Geohazards; iii) Georesources; and iv) Environmental Change. German scientists are heavily involved in 75% of all ICDP projects as PIs or Co-PIs. Funding through the SPP ICDP is the basis for this high involvement of German scientists in the international drilling programs. The aim of this proposal is to continue the coordination of the SPP ICDP. We intend to coordinate national efforts and projects, to support communication at national and international level by supporting workshops and meetings, to develop new international initiatives, and to promote the participation of scientists working in Germany in these activities. The coordination office will also keep track of ongoing international and national ICDP projects. The renewal of the ICDP Germany website and the further intensification of the cooperation with the IODP Coordination Office will remain central concerns in the coming funding period.
