This project allows us to establish the role of one of the most popular Kiev preachers of the second half of the 17th century – Antonij Radyvylovs'kyj – in the European literature of the Baroque period. The research will show in the end the logically consistent and comprehensive structure of these preaches. Attention will be paid to the preacher’s education in rhetoric, which was based on Latin-German and Polish samples. The transformative processes that took place in Baroque European rhetoric and had a direct influence on the creative quest of Antonij Radyvylovs'kyj will be analyzed. Of the preaching heritage of Antonij Radyvylovs'kyj, the main object of study will be war, penitential sermons and sermons on hell, that is, those very genre forms of preaching that appeared in the lands of the Kyiv Metropolis under the influence of the Western European homiletical tradition. We will also focus on funeral and commemoration sermons, as these genre forms underwent substantial change in both content and form in the 17th century through the influence of the Jesuit rhetorical teachings. The following aspects of sermons will be analyzed: (a) their genre-forming concepts; (b) their sources; (c) their methods of adaptation of borrowed textual material and rhetorical means; (d) their moral and theological discourse.
