The DESY group forms the core of the QCDSF collaboration and will generate the gauge field configurations with dynamical quarks. The aim is to produce configurations spread over a wide range of bare parameters so that an extrapolation of the physical results to the continuum and chiral limit can be performed. These configurations will be made available to other teams within the research unit for further analysis. The physic´s program of the DESY group will focus on light hadron phenomenology. The topics to be studied are the light hadron spectrum, quark masses, the running coupling constant as, nucleon form factors, the deep-inelastic structure functions of the nucleon including contributions of higher-twist, weak matrix elements and decay constants, and the dynamics of the QCD vacuum and the quark confinement mechanism. Furthermore, we will extend our work on perturbative and non-perturbative renormalization and improvement to the case of dynamical quarks.
