We apply for a high-resolution mass spectrometer with electrospray ionization (ESI-MS) and a quadrupole orbitrap analyzer for operation in MS/MS mode. In addition to the associated EDV, an HPLC is requested as a peripheral device, which enables the measurement of LC-MS spectra. The complete package also includes a nitrogen generator required for ESI operation (since supply via compressed gas cylinders would be uneconomical at high flow rates), an uninterruptible power supply (USV, due to frequent unplanned and planned power shutdowns in the building) and noise insulation for the vacuum pump. The device applied for is used exclusively in research for the mass spectrometric analysis of organic and inorganic molecular compounds, which are usually new synthetic products. In addition, LC-MS coupling is required to investigate complex product or reaction mixtures in order to identify products and by-products, which can be used, for example, to optimize the reaction or to establish reaction mechanisms. MS/MS coupling is required to elucidate the structure (constitution) of unexpected and unknown compounds (possibly from mixtures using LC-MS).
