Self-Assembled Rolled-Up Microcoils for Solid-State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 534290830

The main objective of this proposal is to design, fabricate and improve self-assembled rolled-up microcoils for solid state magnetic resonance experiments, especially for low temperature experiments. With these microcoils, we want to study intrinsic static and dynamic properties of quantum spin systems by NMR, for which the conventional NMR experiments are limited due to their smaller sample size or the unavailability of single crystal samples. In particular, the proposed project aims to investigate samples exhibiting low dimensional magnetism or unconventional superconductivity. Immediate materials under consideration include tiny F-doped LaFeAsO single crystals, microcrystals of LiCuSbO4 and BiCoPO5, and exfoliated microcrystals of 2D van der Waals materials such as TM2P2S6, TM = Ni, Mn, Fe, etc. The objective of this proposal is not to study all of these materials in detail, but to find a suitable candidate and proof the applicability of rolled-up microcoils for solid state NMR.
