Project Details
Mosques and the Production of Belonging (B04)
Subject Area
Empirical Social Research
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 501120656
The project examines the ways in which mosques function as an infrastructure for the production of belonging that relate not only to local (religious) communities, but also to national and transnational "communities". Through ethnographic field research in a mosque associated with the Turkish-Muslim umbrella organization DITIB, the negotiations around different affiliations are analyzed, not least in intergenerational perspectives on the (imagined) homeland Turkey and on Turkish-national or Turkish-Muslim loyalties.
