Project Details
Decopperization of steel by Selenium (T13#)
Subject Area
Metallurgical, Thermal and Thermomechanical Treatment of Materials
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 169148856
ESF Elbe-Stahlwerke Feralpi GmbH produces crude steel on the scrap-based secondary route. Purchased scrap contains impurities from coatings of Zn, Sn, Cu and other materials. These impurities negatively affect the metallurgical processes in several ways. In this transfer project, the decopperization approach with selenium addition supposed to be well developed in cooperation with Feralpi GmbH. For this purpose, the following points have to be researched on the decopperization with selenium: a) the influence of the elements [O] and [S]; b) determine the optimum conditions/locations; c) the influence on the cleanliness of the steel.
