The role of entanglement in the Quantum Information Theory: structure of separable and non-separable states in multipartite quantum systems, quantitive operational measures of entanglement. Theory of entanglement of operations. Numerical methods for the study of quantum states

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term from 2001 to 2007
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5320972

The non-local, genuine quantum properties of quantum states of bi- und multipartite quantum systems will be investigated with respect to their possible importance for quantum informations processing. In particular, the mathematical structure of separable, or non-separable states will be studied both from the qualitative, as well as the quantitative point of view. New kinds of quantitative operational measures of entanglement will be proposed and characterized. The problem of experimental detection and characterization of entanglement will be addressed. The simular program of research will be applied to quantum operations.
