This project aims to fundamentally investigate material and process combinations with earth-based materials by identifying and investigating specific material and process parameters that enable Earth Additive Manufacturing (EAM). Firstly, applicable earth mixtures for EAM processes will be explored and classified depending on their type and amount of clay minerals. In addition, the application of clays as additives in cement and concrete AM will be investigated. In direct interaction with the earthen materials design, conception and experimental investigation of processing of the materials for AM will be the focus for two novel EAM processes, namely: Sprayed Earth Additive Manufacturing (SEAM) and Intrusion Earth Additive Manufacturing (IEAM).
