The main purpose of this project is to explore the potential of low-damping magnetic nano-systems for nonlinear physics and their technical applications. In particular, within the framework of this project, we will study different intra-mode and inter-mode nonlinear interactions, which are strongly enhanced in microscopic systems. We will search for ways to control and intensify these interactions by tailoring the dispersion and nonlinear characteristics of magnetic nano-structures. In addition to gaining fundamental knowledge, we will focus on application aspects that are critically important for the emerging field of magnonics, which considers the use of spin waves for nanoscale transmission and processing of information. We will address the utilization of nonlinear effects for excitation of short-wavelength spin waves, which are difficult to excite using traditional linear mechanisms, and study the possibilities of amplification of spin waves and spin-wave packets by parametric interactions and non-stationary effects. We will also explore the potential of dynamic spin-wave solitons for the implementation of high-data rate nano-scale information transmission. These experiments will be performed on microstructured YIG fabricated by the recently developed lift-off process, which enables experiments not only on laterally patterned films, but also on structures with modulated thickness, allowing efficient adjustment of the dispersion properties of spin waves.
