Inflammation-induced intestinal epithelial regulated necrosis as a novel modulator of bone resorption (A02)

Project A02 will address how chronic intestinal inflammation and dysbiosis can affect homeostasis of joints and bones. The etiology of bone loss in IBD is multifactorial and although a gut-bone axis has been described in clinical studies, the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. A02 will identify microbiota-dependent and -independent mechanisms that influence osteoclast differentiation using a new mouse model for IBD that is based on intestinal epithelial dysfunction (Casp8ΔIEC mice) and mimics several key features of IBD.
