Inhibitory neurons of different dynamical types: critical network states and homeostasis (B05)
Subject Area

Interneurons can display different types of voltage dynamics, distinguished by the mathematical bifurcation that underlies action-potential initiation. Yet the impact of these intrinsic dynamics on neural processing is far from understood. The major goals of this project are (1) to investigate information processing in inhibitory networks in the vicinity of an interesting transition in neuronal dynamics, where neurons switch their type, and (2) to analyze whether and how cells can homeostatically control their dynamical type, thus ensuring the robustness of how information is represented in the network.
