Bremen State and University Library holds a collection of approximately 9.500 personal occasional writings from the 16th to the 19th century. This collection is almost unique in its unity and represents the diversity of this particular genre of text. The material is of regional and of general interest to various academic disciplines. It is, however, very complex to index, partly because of the large number of (unknown) persons. Three objectives are being pursued with the proposed DFG project: 1. The indexing and cataloguing of personal occasion-related writings in both library and general reference systems (including VD 16, VD 17, VD 18); 2. The digitisation, OCR full-text indexing and online presentation (accessibility?) of the complete collection; 3. The testing and documentation of participation procedures: experienced genealogists will be encouraged to identify (disambiguate) persons quoted in the writings, so that the results can be imported into the Gemeinsame Normdatei (National Authority File).
