Many central philosophical issues, such as Platonism versus Nominalism, concern the existence or being of particular kinds of things. A clear grasp of the notion of existence is therefore of fundamental philosophical importance. Kant’s ground breaking new perspective on the notion of existence is generally seen as a paradigm change concerning the analysis of the concept of existence. In this project, we aim to show that our understanding of this paradigm change is not yet fully understood and underestimated in its potential. We will mine the contributions of so far neglected 19th century philosophers that responded to Kant. This will enrich our understanding of Kant and open up new ways to understand existence.
