TNF receptor family signaling in modulating decision processes in apoptotic and necrotic liver cell death (B08)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 471011418

Project Description

The liver is exposed to a large variety of stimuli and drugs, which can promote hepatocyte death through different cell death modalities, i.e. apoptosis versus necrotic types of cell death. Of interest, members of the TNF superfamily, especially TRAIL, fail to promote hepatocyte death directly, yet enhance cell death induction by other triggers, including necrosis-promoting drugs, such as paracetamol. This project will investigate the role of BCL-2 family members and energy metabolism in the execution of hepatocyte cell death by different cell death modalities, and how TNF family members regulate these processes.
