Project Details
Host cell decisions between apoptosis, necroptosis and survival after infections with Herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) (B01)
Subject Area
Cell Biology
Term
since 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 471011418
Cell death induction has for a long time been recognized as a protective response to viral infection of host cells: both apoptosis and necroptosis appear to have this function. This project will study the molecular decision of how one virus, Herpes simplex virus 1, can promote lytic cell death by necroptosis in epithelial cells, but apoptotic cell death in immune cells and fibroblasts. It will investigate how candidate signals, such as NF-B, caspase 8 activation and the regulation of PUMA on the host side, and viral candidate proteins as well as a viral miRNA differentially regulate these cell death decision processes.
