In this project systematic access to neutral, radical, anionic and cationic unsaturated three-membered amido-substituted silicon ring compounds will be developed. These compounds will be comprehensively characterized with single crystal X-ray diffraction, NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and quantum chemical methods to visualize molecular orbitals and to perform bond analysis. One main objective is to elaborate the reactivity of these unsaturated three-membered silicon ring compounds. For this purpose, gases such as CO2, CO, N2O, N2, Ethen and H2 will be employed. These reagents can undergo reactions with the Si=Si double bond and the coordinatively unsaturated silicon atoms in the radical and anionic species. The cationic Si3 ring compound will be tested for its potential to be used as a ligand for transition metal complexes. Moreover, reactivity due to the release of ring strain is expected with the unsaturated Si3 ring compounds that will lead to novel products. As further reagents P4, alkenes, alkynes, azides, isocyanides and isocyanates will be utilized that are expected to react in a similar fashion. Additionally, to these objectives the steric and electronic properties of the amido substituents on the character of the Si=Si bond in each Si3 ring compound and their reactivity will be systematically investigated. Furthermore, the possibility to build conjugated pi-systems upon salt elimination reaction with magnesium and lithium organyls and a bromocyclotrisilene will be investigated.
