In this project, the antimicrobial action of probiotic bacteria (a strain of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum) on native or infected human ex-vivo skin shall be investigated. The primary goal is to develop this probiotic (enclosed in suitable membranes) for "antibiotic-free" treatment of bacteria-associated skin diseases. The L. plantarum strain chosen shall be optimized concerning its bacteriocin production and tested for the action of its mutants in the ex-vivo skin model.
