During the first period of the projekt the attention was focussed on: (i) control of the chemical composition of the matrix (homopolymeric, block-copolymeric, random copolymeric) by governing the transreaction conditions, (ii) transfer of the manufacturing principle of the various MFC-structures from a lab scale level to a small producion quantity sufficient enough to make granules for injection moulding of bulk test specimens, and (iii) the characterisation of various mechanical properties of the materials as a function of blend composition and their microstructural details. For performance of this study exclusively polymers of condensation type were used. During the second stage of the project it is intended to extend the experience, gathered so far, on MFC's is prepared from blends of polylefines and polycondensates, under support of a compatibilizer as a third blend component. Such systems will allow to apply both physical (co-crystallization) and chemical (transreaction) tools for suppressing the incompatibility. Appropriate systems are blends of polypropylene (PP) with polyamide 6 (PA6) or PA 66 and chemically modified PP (containing carboxyl groups) as compatibilizer. MFC's comprising only polyolefines (e.g. from PP and polyethylene) will be also studied.
