Polarization transfer from photo-excited triplet electron spins to nuclear spins (triplet DNP) is a process capable of generating hyperpolarized target molecules at room-temperature. Here, we aim at self-assembled molecular complexes forming a container for small molecules (H2O, MeOH, EtOH) to be polarized, where polarization transfer occurs from the excited triplet-state of the “side-wall” molecular units of the host container complex (i.e., polyaromatic organic groups) to the nuclei of the encapsulated guest molecules. Time-resolved spectroscopies, EPR, and mass spectrometry will help to identify tailored molecular complexes with a maximum efficiency of polarization transfer.
