Mid-Resolution spectroscopy instrument development (C07)

Subject Area Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 500700252

Project Description

Subproject C7 will develop a low- to mid-resolution spectrometer on a chip, based on superconducting narrowband filters combined with Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors (MKID), that will be coupled to a broadband antenna. Design, fabrication and test will be done in house in the I. Physics Institute at Cologne University. The developed chips will be the basis for a 3D multi-pixel spectroscopic instrument for the CCAT-prime observatory in the frequency range of 200-400 GHz, with a large instantaneous bandwidth and a high sensitivity for efficient medium resolution spectral line intensity surveys.
