Instrumentation for high-resolution spectroscopy (B07)

Subject Area Astrophysics and Astronomy
Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 500700252

Project Description

Project B7 develops state-of-the-art receiver technology for high-resolution spectroscopy in astronomy. Velocity resolved spectroscopy is a key tool to study the physics of the interstellar gas. To provide the advanced instrumentation for these observations, we develop new heterodyne spectrometers for the submillimeter and Terahertz spectral range. The central task for the first funding period will be to develop the High Frequency Array (HFA) for CHAI (CCAT-prime Heterodyne Array Instrument), an 8 × 8 pixel focal plane array for frequencies around 800 GHz.
