Supernova and neutron star driven feedback under the microscope (B05)

B5 will develop a holistic approach to studying the interaction of supernovae (SNe), their remnants, and the turbulent interstellar medium (ISM) by exploiting a number of underutilized sources of infor-mation and new techniques. We will interlink detailed radio observations with 3D simulations for a suitable number of showcases. We will concentrate on SN remnants that interact with nearby molecular clouds and harbour active neutron stars. Observations of the neutron star, its energetics, and e.g. bow-shocks caused by a supersonic motion of the neutron star provide information on the resulting energy deposition. Studies of scintillation properties in the case of detected radio emission simulta-neously provide insight into the density structure of the ionised ISM and its turbulence. Studying the injection and distribution of SN energy, we will assess the dynamical impact of supernova feedback. This aspect is particularly important for the regulation of star formation in gas-rich environments, where SNe commonly interact with dense gas.
