Project Details
Palaeointensity measurement of the Earth`s magnetic field and partial self-reversal of natural remanent magnetization of basalts
Applicant
Professor Dr. Nikolai Petersen
Subject Area
Geophysics
Term
from 2000 to 2007
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5249874
(...) It is the aim of the project- to determine the frequency of partial self-reversal in basalts by measuring the remanent magnetization at high temperatures- to correlate the phenomenon with age, conditions of emplacement of the rock, general petrology and magnetomineralogy- to determine the consequences for palaeointensity measurements- to elaborate simple criteria that reveal the presence of partial self-reversal in a particular rock- to identify the mechanism of partial self-reversal
