Project Details
Effects of the gut microenvironment on liver during cancer (B08*)
Subject Area
Immunology
Term
since 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 403224013
Colorectal cancer (CRC) has strong negative effects on the liver. The liver is the preferred site for CRC metastases. In addition, liver dysfunction during CRC is associated with cachexia and its detrimental prognosis. Project B08 characterises how gut tumours result in hepatic manifestations by analysing the effects of early intestinal oncogenic changes on the liver immune cell populations, on liver functions and on cancer-associated liver pathologies. The parallel analysis in pre-clinical models and patient samples will allow to establish a framework of the role of the gut-liver axis during cancer.
