This proposal is a contribution to the HALO mission HALO-South. The key objectives of this proposal are comprehensive characterisation of the complete life cycle of ice crystals in convective cloud systems from ice initiation to ice growth, and investigation of microphysical and optical properties of anvil outflow cirrus in pristine Southern Ocean conditions. In-situ measurements of cloud microphysical and optical measurements will be performed with the cloud instrumentation onboard the HALO aircraft.
