For the coordination of research activities and the exchange of ideas, protocolls, materials and results, numerous of individual scientists and collaborators of the DFG-Confocal Research Group have taken place in Hamburg and in Münster, but also in connection with symposia, conferences and congresses where members of the Confocal Research Group participated. The individual contact travels of scientists and technicians served the purpose of learning methods in the partner institution, to plan details of individual projects, to discuss results and finally to draft joint publications. In addition, formal workshops of all collaborators of the Confocal Research Group were held (November 27, 1998 in Hamburg, November 28/29, 1999 in Münster and March 13/14, 2000 in Rothenberge near Münster). At these workshops the collaborators presented their research activities and plans for further projects were made, but also group and individual discussions took place. These meetings were decisive instruments for coordinating research work in the Institute of Reproductive Medicine in Münster and the Institute of Hormone and Fertility Research in Hamburg and in order to strengthen the scientific relations and personal contacts. These meetings were financed as part of the central project of the Confocal Research Group. Scientists from outside were invited or outside institutions were visited if their expertise was useful for the work of the Confocal Research Group and the visits appeared necessary to gain knowledge. The documentation assistant, located in Münster, was of decisive importance for the optimal function of the Confocal Research group. She compiled voluminous data of the individual projects and performed statistical evaluation of the results. She was instrumental in drafting graphs for publications, poster presentations, and lectures. She was an invaluable asset for the project leaders.
