In silico modelling of brain malformations (A01)

Subject Area Mechanics
Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 460333672

Project Description

A01 aims to develop a computational framework numerically predicting the mechanisms underlying abnormal brain development, which will help to assist the diagnosis and treatment of associated neurological diseases such as epilepsy. Based on insights into the interplay between mechanics, cell migration, cell differentiation, and brain malformations obtained through projects A02 through A05, we will establish a multifield computer model to predict physiological and pathological brain development. For model calibration and validation, we will use data sets generated in project A02 supplemented by mechanical tests on fresh human brain tissue extracted during surgical procedures.
