At faculty 1 (Architecture - Civil Engineering - Geomatics) of Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Frankfurt UAS), interdisciplinary research is conducted on building structures, while at faculty 2 (Computer Science and Engineering) research is conducted e.g. on materials for biomechanical medical technology. The proposed project will support and build up the following research fields in the two departments: - Sustainable lightweight constructions; - Tight structures in accordance with WHG/AwSV (Facilities for handling substances hazardous to water); - Connection, anchoring and fastening technologies in thin-walled carbon concrete components; - Stability of steel components / wood-steel composite structures; - Structural glass engineering; - Geotechnical engineering with interfaces to structural concrete construction; - Lifetime models for ceramic structural components. The primary objective of the application is to support the existing, good laboratory equipment of faculties 1 and 2 with a test rig for 1:1 component tests including photogrammetric 3D measurement technology. This allows the investigation of large-format building components with complex load-bearing behavior or other members that cannot be tested in the existing standard testing machines. The test rig thus opens up research questions and projects beyond small-format, quasi-statically loaded model members, which can be used to investigate the behavior of material specimens at the meso level with simple linear load-bearing effects, but which can only form the basis for describing more complex load-bearing mechanisms. The research fields, which are currently being established, can only be scientifically made accessible with such an experimental facility. Secondary goals of the proposal are the increase of the amount of research projects, the competitiveness in the acquisition of third-party funding, the visibility of Frankfurt UAS in the respective scientific communities, the better utilization of the existing equipment infrastructure, the associated development of PhD career paths based on third party funding and the development of a graduate school. A modular 1:1-structural component test rig with a steel mounting plate of approximately 3.5 m x 5.5 m, steel components (test frames, support blocks) and static/dynamic hydraulic cylinders is used. The test rig shall be able to apply vertical, horizontal as well as combined loads to large-sized structural components. In addition, a photogrammetric 3D measuring system for field-wise recording of component deformations as well as conventional measuring technology in the form of linear displacement transducers and measuring amplifiers including software are used.
